Friday Väst AB is hiring an **Android Software Test Engineer** for a full-time consultancy assignment placed with a global technology client in Eskilstuna. Working **on-site** within a cross-functional Agile R&D team, the role focuses on automated software verification for a new Android-based vehicle platform. Core responsibilities include developing, maintaining, and running Python and pytest automated tests, integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines, and supporting HIL testing and ECU validation. The engineer also verifies communication across interfaces like CAN, LIN, Ethernet, and Bluetooth, while troubleshooting system-level failures alongside developers. The position requires at least four years of experience in software testing, verification, or test automation, alongside proven experience in **Python test automation** and automated testing for Android applications, Android Auto, or Android Automotive. Candidates need a basic understanding of and practical support experience with HIL or ECU testing, familiarity with automotive communication protocols, Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, and professional working proficiency in English. Background checks and drug testing are mandatory parts of the recruitment process.
Help shape the verification of a new Android-based software platform where software, hardware and vehicle systems come together. You will build test automation in Python and pytest, dig into complex system behaviour and get to the root of issues that only appear when Android meets the real product.
The role:
As an Android Software Test Engineer, your main focus will be automated software verification. You will develop, maintain and execute Python-based tests for a new Android platform and work closely with developers when something does not behave as expected.
The system extends beyond Android itself. Software interacts with ECUs, hardware and communication interfaces such as CAN, LIN, Ethernet and Bluetooth. You will therefore also support HIL testing and investigate failures across different parts of the system.
The platform is still evolving, giving you the opportunity to improve test frameworks, automation practices and CI/CD integration as the team develops its verification approach. You will work on-site in Eskilstuna as part of a cross-functional Agile R&D team.
What you’ll be working on:
- Develop, maintain and execute automated tests in Python and pytest
- Verify Android-based software and functionality at system level
- Analyze failures across software, hardware and communication layers
- Work closely with developers to identify root causes and resolve issues
- Support HIL testing and ECU validation
- Verify communication across CAN, LIN, Ethernet and Bluetooth
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
- Improve test frameworks, tools and automation practices
What we’re looking for:
We are looking for an experienced software test engineer who combines Android testing with Python-based test automation and enjoys working close to complex technical systems.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in software testing, verification or test automation
- Hands-on experience developing, maintaining or executing automated tests for Android applications, Android Auto or Android Automotive
- Practical experience developing test automation in Python, using pytest or a similar framework
- Basic understanding of HIL testing and experience supporting HIL or ECU-based testing
- Familiarity with automotive communication such as CAN, LIN, Ethernet or Bluetooth
- Experience with Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
- Experience analyzing test failures and troubleshooting together with developers
- Experience working in an Agile development environment
- Professional working proficiency in English
Experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS), Appium, automotive test tools, simulation environments, embedded systems, ISO 26262 or Automotive SPICE is a plus.
