HOCHTIEF Infrastructure GmbH is seeking a **Contract Manager** (or Senior Contract Engineer) based in Vagnhärad to support the OL31 Rail Project, part of the extensive Ostlänken double-track railway investment. The role entails overseeing all contractual aspects throughout the project lifecycle to protect commercial interests and ensure compliance across agreements with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. Key responsibilities include analyzing contractual obligations, administering variations and change orders, identifying commercial risks, handling formal correspondence, and supporting the preparation and negotiation of claims, counterclaims, and dispute resolution. Working within an international team, the postholder collaborates closely with project management, procurement, and legal advisors. Applicants must hold a degree in law, engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, business administration, or a related discipline, alongside at least **seven years of experience** in contract, commercial, or claims management within large-scale construction, infrastructure, railway, or civil engineering projects. Thorough knowledge of **Swedish construction regulations**, Trafikverket requirements (such as TDOK and TMOL), and standard contract forms—especially AB04, ABT06, ABK09, and ABU07—is essential, alongside experience on Scandinavian infrastructure projects. Full professional fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Swedish or German and professional commercial management certifications are advantageous.

We are currently looking for an Contract Manager / Senior Contract Engineer to join our team on the OL31 Project in Vagnhärad, Sweden.
The OL31 Project forms part of the Ostlänken programme, one of Sweden's largest and most important railway infrastructure investments. Ostlänken is a new approximately 160-kilometre double-track railway connecting Järna and Linköping, designed to increase capacity, improve regional connectivity and support sustainable transport across Sweden.
The project involves complex civil engineering works, extensive stakeholder coordination, demanding management of sophisticated procurement activities. Working on OL31 offers the opportunity to contribute to a landmark infrastructure programme that will have a lasting impact on Sweden's transport network and future development.
About the Role
As Contract Manager / Senior Contract Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the contractual aspects and requirements of the project throughout its lifecycle. You will play a key role in protecting the company's contractual interests, supporting project delivery, and ensuring compliance with client, subcontractor, and supplier agreements.
The position requires strong commercial awareness, excellent negotiation skills, and experience in managing contracts and contractual requirements within large-scale infrastructure or construction projects. You will work closely with project management, procurement, legal advisors, and operational teams to identify risks, manage claims, and ensure effective contract administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and administer project contracts and contractual requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review, interpret, and analyze contractual obligations, rights, and risks.
- Monitor compliance with contract requirements and project commitments.
- Identify contractual risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Support project teams in contractual matters and provide guidance on contract interpretation.
- Manage correspondence related to contractual and requirement issues with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate contract amendments, variations, and change orders.
- Support the preparation and assessment of claims, counterclaims, and dispute resolution processes.
- Maintain comprehensive contract records and documentation.
- Collaborate with procurement, commercial and legal teams during subcontractor and supplier engagements.
- Monitor key contractual milestones, notices, and deliverables.
- Participate in contract, requirement, commercial, and claims meetings and support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure contractual compliance with project requirements, company policies, and applicable regulations.
Your Profile
Requirements
- Degree in Law, Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in contract management, commercial management, or claims management within construction, infrastructure, or engineering projects.
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure, civil engineering, railway, or industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of contract administration and commercial risk management.
- Experience with contract forms such as Design & Build, EPC, or similar contractual frameworks, especially AB04, ABT06, ABK09, ABU07, etc.
- Experience with AMA, MER, Swedish Construction Regulations and Standards, and Trafikverket’s Requirements such as TDOK, TMOL, etc.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience managing variations, claims, and dispute-related matters.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and international project teams.
- Proficiency in contract management and document control systems.
- Experience on Scandinavian infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with Swedish construction law and contractual practices.
- Experience in claims preparation, administration, and negotiations.
- Understanding of procurement and subcontract management processes.
- Professional certifications related to contract or commercial management are considered an advantage.
Language Requirements
Fluency in English is required; Swedish and German language skills are highly desirable.
