Core Gameplay Engineer - THE FINALS

Embark Studios AB · Stockholm · Tills vidare

Embark Studios AB is looking for a **Core Gameplay Engineer** to work on *THE FINALS*. In close collaboration with designers and cross-functional colleagues, the engineer builds intuitive systems, tools, and player-facing features that enable rapid iteration and experimentation. The games are developed in Unreal Engine using C++, Blueprints, and Angelscript. Responsibilities span the entire gameplay technical stack—including performance, tooling, networking, and architecture—as well as debugging complex issues, taking **technical ownership of systems**, and supporting live-game operations to keep the title healthy across multiple platforms. Applicants must have a **strong background in C++**, proven experience in computer science fundamentals and software architecture, and a solid grasp of gameplay design and feel. While not strictly mandatory, advantageous experience includes commercial work with Unreal Engine or other game engines, familiarity with Angelscript or comparable scripting languages, and background in first-person or competitive shooters. Experience across the full game development lifecycle through live operations, as well as knowledge in backend, engine, performance, or tools engineering, is also valued.

As a Gameplay Engineer at Embark, you will work on THE FINALS, alongside some of the most talented people in the games industry. We believe that great games are made in creative environments, where builds are always playable, and teams can move fast and test as many ideas as possible. In close collaboration with our designers, you will build easy-to-use systems that enable us to iterate quickly and that encourage experimentation.

The games we're making are built in Unreal, using C++, blueprints and a scripting language called Angelscript. This role spans both content and the systems underneath it. You'll work on features players feel directly, as well as performance, tooling, architecture and networking. We care about building things once and building them well, and we keep pushing to make what's built for one part of the game useful to whoever needs it next. You'll have experienced engineers around you to learn from, and room to grow into ownership of complex problems.
