Mpya Sci & Tech AB is seeking a **Downstream Process Specialist** to work as a consultant on development projects for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. The role focuses on developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting purification processes for recombinant proteins and other biological molecules. Assignments range from early-stage process development to optimization, stabilization, and scale-up ahead of GMP manufacturing. Core responsibilities include designing purification strategies using chromatography and filtration (such as UF/DF), improving yield, purity, and product stability, planning and evaluating experimental results, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust, scalable solutions. Candidates must hold a relevant **university degree in Life Science**, with a PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field considered a preference. Several years of hands-on experience in downstream process development and protein purification using chromatography and filtration are required. Applicants also need proven experience working in a **GMP-regulated environment** within biologics development or manufacturing, direct collaboration with CMOs or CDMOs, and fluency in both written and spoken Swedish and English. Practical expertise in purifying challenging proteins, process scale-up, validation, and regulatory documentation serves as an advantage.

At Mpya Sci & Tech, we are looking for someone with solid experience in downstream process development and protein purification. You have a strong technical background, enjoy solving complex problems and like finding new solutions when existing methods are not enough.

As a consultant at Mpya Sci & Tech, you will have the opportunity to use your expertise in development projects at pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Your assignments may range from early-stage process development to optimization and scale-up ahead of manufacturing.

About the role

You will develop, optimize and troubleshoot purification processes for recombinant proteins and other biological molecules. This may involve developing new purification strategies, improving yield and product quality, or solving challenges related to aggregation, adsorption, instability and product loss.

Your work will include:

Developing and optimizing purification processes using chromatography and filtration.
Improving protein purity, stability, activity and yield.
Planning and evaluating experiments and analyzing results.
Troubleshooting processes and making them more robust, with future scale-up and GMP manufacturing in mind.

You will work closely with other specialists and contribute your expertise to developing reliable and practical process solutions.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with:

A relevant university degree in Life Science, preferably a PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a related field.
Several years of experience in downstream process development and protein purification.
Hands-on experience with chromatography and filtration, such as ultrafiltration and diafiltration (UF/DF).
Experience working in a GMP-regulated environment within the development or manufacturing of biological medicines.
Experience working with CMOs/CDMOs in process development or manufacturing.
The ability to drive development work independently, analyze results and solve complex technical problems.
Excellent written and spoken in Swedish and English.

Experience in purifying challenging proteins and enzymes, scaling up processes and process validation is an advantage. Experience with regulatory documentation for biological medicines is also beneficial.

You are analytical, curious and solution-oriented. You enjoy solving technical challenges, take initiative and work well both independently and as part of a team.
