EMC engineer

Hitachi Energy Sweden AB · Ludvika · Tills vidare

Hitachi Energy Sweden AB is hiring an **EMC engineer** to join its High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) business unit. The unit develops, manufactures, and sells DC transmission systems globally, transmitting power across long distances and submarine cables. Based primarily in Ludvika, where **presence at the Ludvika office** is a strong merit, the role focuses on bridging mechanical and electrical design aspects in challenging electromagnetic environments with fast transients and high voltages. Key responsibilities include ensuring proper design and performance during standard operation, fast switching, and short circuits, documenting EMC requirements and strategies across tenders, projects, and R&D activities, refining guidelines, collaborating on RF and electromagnetic field simulations, and carrying out inspections at international installation sites. Applicants must hold a **Master of Science degree** in an electrical field, applied physics, power systems, or a similar discipline, alongside written and spoken fluency in English. Candidates should have a keen interest in or understanding of both mechanical and electrical design aspects. Practical experience with EMC—such as standards, mitigations, EMC design, shielding philosophies, and cable design—is considered a major merit. Prior experience in the design of auxiliary power systems in HVDC, substation, or other high-current (kA) environments is also beneficial.

The opportunity

Do you want to enable the green energy transition, and together with colleagues meet the world’s needs for sustainable, flexible and secure energy?

In your work you will be part of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) business unit that is a part of Hitachi Energy’s division and is located in Ludvika. The unit develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. Hitachi Energy’s developed HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables, thus enabling stability, cooperation between grids, sea-based wind power and more.

Are you interested in working in the EMC domain in a challenging electromagnetic environment, where signal cables, electronics and many other systems meet high voltages and currents? Do you want to help ensure that the system maintains full functionality during fast transients with very high voltages? Does a department working to bridge mechanical and electrical aspects of the design by performing electro-mechanical studies with an overall system perspective in large scale projects, all in a highly international environment sound interesting? Then maybe you should consider becoming part of our team at HVDC!
