Axis Communications seeks a **Lead Firmware Engineer** based at its headquarters campus in Lund. Joining an 18-person firmware team that develops in C for embedded Linux, this technical leadership position focuses on thermal and explosion-protected camera lines. Working alongside an Engineering Manager and a system architect, the role carries no direct personnel reports and offers the ambition to advance into a system architect position. Responsibilities include setting the team's technical direction, driving structured AI development, translating use cases into structured requirements, strengthening code architecture, maintaining test capabilities, and coordinating delivery alignments with AXIS OS releases. While no regular travel is planned, the position requires openness to **limited travel** if needed. Candidates must have experience as a firmware engineer, **solid experience in architecture design**, and prior background in technical leadership roles, whether with or without direct reports. Professional proficiency in both Swedish and English is required. Advantageous qualifications include development experience in C within Linux or embedded Linux environments, familiarity with Axis systems, practical experience with AI development or AI-driven agile improvements, and background facilitating agile ceremonies such as refinements, demos, and retrospectives.

About the role
We are looking for a Lead Firmware Engineer to drive the technical direction of our firmware team, strengthen our ways of working through agile methodologies, and build close collaboration with other Axis development teams. Advancing how we work with AI is also a key part of the role.
This is a technical leadership role without direct reports, where you work closely with the Engineering Manager and the team's system architect, with the ambition of growing into a system architect role. You will set direction and shape how the team works, while remaining close to the engineering itself.
Your future team
You will join a team of 18 firmware developers working across several product areas, including thermal cameras and explosion-protected cameras. The team develops in C in a Linux environment, and our products run embedded Linux.
In this role you will, for example:
- Explore and understand use cases, and translate them into clear, well-structured requirements for the team.
- Drive and lead our AI development in a structured and systematic way.
- Act as a technical discussion partner and sounding board to product managers and other managers, balancing competing technical requirements.
- Strengthen our design-first approach by visualizing and presenting the intended code architecture, including taking a proactive approach to system resource requirements such as processing power and memory demands.
- Build and maintain testing capabilities within the team, ensuring efficient test frameworks and suites are available for continuous use.
- Coordinate firmware-related work across the firmware teams in the department and with other parts of the R&D organization, and plan deliveries so they align well with AXIS OS releases.
- Compile and present the features delivered by the team to stakeholders outside the team.

Requirements
- Experience as a firmware engineer.
- Solid experience in architecture design.
- Experience from technical leadership roles, with or without direct reports.
- Professional proficiency in both Swedish and English.
Bonus points for
- Experience developing in C in a Linux environment, ideally with embedded Linux.
- Familiarity with Axis products and systems.
- Experience working with AI development, or with making productivity and quality improvements using agile methods and AI.
- Experience facilitating agile ceremonies, such as backlog refinement, prioritization, demos and retrospectives.
No travel is planned for this role, but we ask that you are open to limited traveling should the role require it.
