Lead/Senior Scientist, Biocatalysis

EnginZyme AB · Solna · Tills vidare · Deadline 2026-11-01

EnginZyme AB is recruiting a **Lead/Senior Scientist in Biocatalysis** to join its Product Development team within R&D, based in Solna, Stockholm. This is a full-time, **hands-on lab-based position** with occasional travel required for project work, training, and conferences. Levelled as Lead or Senior depending on experience, the role serves as a technical subject matter expert driving biocatalyst solutions from proof-of-concept through to immobilised formulations ready for scale-up and technology transfer. Responsibilities include leading customer and internal projects, designing and running experiments across screening, reaction optimisation, and enzyme characterisation, supporting patent applications, and mentoring research assistants and junior scientists. Applicants must hold a **PhD in biocatalysis**, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field, or possess equivalent industrial experience. Candidates need post-PhD experience in applied biocatalysis—at least 3 years for the Lead level, or 5 or more years including technical project leadership for the Senior level—ideally gained in an industrial setting. Strong analytical capabilities (such as HPLC, GC, and spectrophotometric assays) and excellent written and spoken English are mandatory. Experience with enzyme immobilisation, reaction engineering, kinetic modelling, bioinformatics, and automated high-throughput screening is desirable.

At Enginzyme, we’re pioneering biomanufacturing by combining the power of enzymes with our proprietary enzyme immobilisation platform (EziG®), process engineering, and an automated smart lab. We are looking for a Lead/Senior Scientist to join the Product Development team within R&D and drive the development of our biocatalyst solutions. You’ll be part of a tight-knit and quick-moving team, where collaboration and creative problem-solving are central to our achievements. The ideal candidate has a strong background in enzyme biochemistry and applied biocatalysis, ideally gained in an industrial setting. The role will be levelled as Lead or Senior depending on experience.

This is a full-time, hands-on, lab-based position in Solna (Stockholm), with occasional travel for project work, training and conferences.
