Mechanical Technician at CERN

CERN · Tills vidare · Deadline 2026-11-10

CERN is recruiting a **mechanical technician** to join a research and development programme focused on high-temperature superconducting magnets. The technician will assemble models, prototypes, and tooling, and contribute to designing and manufacturing superconducting coils and components. Daily tasks include fabricating and modifying parts via conventional machining such as milling and turning, producing high-temperature superconductor-based coils, generating CAD drawings from 3D models, managing component stock, and drafting production and quality-control documentation. Practical working conditions involve interventions in underground installations and **work in radiation-controlled areas**. Candidates must hold a **technical certificate, general secondary education, or equivalent relevant experience** in mechanical engineering or a related field. Essential requirements include hands-on experience in assembling electromechanical equipment, conventional machining, reading mechanical drawings with ISO-GPS tolerancing, using mechanical CAD tools, drafting quality documentation, and holding a valid driving licence. Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is required, along with a commitment to learn the other language. Prior experience with superconducting systems and specific proficiency in CATIA are considered assets.
