Rebtel Networks AB is seeking a **Mobile Engineering Manager** based at its Stockholm office. The position combines engineering management with **hands-on native mobile development**, leading the engineers responsible for iOS and Android apps. Core responsibilities include writing and reviewing production code, pairing with engineers, debugging performance issues, and guiding app architecture, testing, and release practices. The role also involves championing the practical use of AI-assisted development tools, fostering a culture of technical ownership, and collaborating closely with product, design, and backend teams. Candidates must have proven leadership experience coaching engineers, delivering feedback, and managing performance, paired with a solid track record of designing, building, and shipping production mobile applications. The role requires **deep hands-on expertise** in either native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) or Android (Kotlin/Java), with the ability to write production code and guide architectural decisions across both platforms; experience limited to cross-platform frameworks such as React Native is explicitly insufficient. Practical familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools, strong technical judgment, and professional fluency in English are also required. Relocation support is available for candidates moving from abroad.
What will you do?
As a Mobile Engineering Manager at Rebtel, you will lead the engineers behind our iOS and Android apps, combining hands-on native mobile development with coaching and team leadership. Your daily work will focus on building high-quality mobile experiences, driving technical excellence, and helping engineers grow in their craft. You will also champion the effective use of AI-assisted development to improve productivity while maintaining strong engineering standards and ownership.
This is not a management-only role. You will write and review production code, pair with engineers, and help solve difficult technical problems while taking responsibility for the team's development and delivery. Your impact will come from both what you build and how you help others grow.
Areas of ownership:
- Coach and develop engineers through regular one-to-ones, clear feedback and career development. Help people strengthen their technical judgment, grow their skills and take greater ownership.
- Stay hands-on with native development. Write and review production code, pair with engineers, and help investigate challenging bugs and performance issues using native platform tools.
- Help the team use AI effectively. Lead by example with AI-assisted development tools, share practical approaches and coach engineers to critically evaluate outputs while maintaining code quality, security and ownership.
- Drive native app excellence. Set high standards for performance, stability, accessibility and user experience across iOS and Android. Guide technical decisions, architecture, testing and release practices.
- Collaborate across teams. Work closely with Product, Design and Backend Engineering to turn customer needs into clear priorities, deliver valuable features and balance short-term goals with long-term app quality.
- Build a culture of ownership and accountability. Hire and develop great engineers, set clear expectations and create an environment where people take initiative, solve problems and take pride in what they deliver.
Requirements:
- You are an excellent communicator and collaborator. English is our working language, but you'll hear many different languages in our Stockholm office.
- A strong track record as a native mobile engineer, with production iOS or Android apps you have personally designed, built and shipped.
- Deep hands-on expertise in native iOS development (Swift/Objective-C) or Android development (Kotlin/Java). You understand native architecture, UI, app lifecycle, concurrency, performance and debugging, and are comfortable contributing production code today. You can guide technical decisions across both platforms, although equal expertise in both is not required. Experience limited to React Native or other cross-platform frameworks does not meet this requirement.
- Experience leading and developing engineers, including coaching, giving feedback, supporting career growth and managing performance. You know how to stay technically involved without taking over.
- Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools. You understand where they add value, where they fall short and how to validate their output.
- Strong engineering judgment and the ability to make pragmatic technical decisions, balancing quality, delivery and long-term maintainability.
