Frontgrade Gaisler AB is seeking a **Principal ASIC/System-on-Chip Engineer** to contribute to the complete development lifecycle of space microprocessor SoC designs, spanning architectural exploration, development, verification, implementation, and prototype validation. In this role, the engineer leads technical aspects of projects, coordinates technical workflows, and implements designs across both ASIC and FPGA target technologies. The position operates on a **hybrid work model** with up to two days per week remote, though a fully remote arrangement within Sweden that includes regular office visits can also be considered. Candidates must hold an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, alongside at least **10 years of ASIC development experience** that includes SoC architecture. Essential requirements include extensive experience in RTL design, verification, and implementation; IP core integration with high-performance functions; hands-on knowledge of synthesis using Synopsys or Cadence; DFT; physical design; and strong skills in VHDL or a similar HDL. Practical experience in measurements and fault tracing on FPGA or ASIC designs, familiarity with RISC-V or SPARC microprocessor architectures, advanced ASIC nodes, and radiation-tolerant or fault-tolerant design are strong advantages.

What you will do
As a Principal ASIC/System-on-Chip Engineer, you will participate in the complete development process of space microprocessor System-on-Chip designs; from architectural design, through development and verification, to implementation and prototype validation. You will lead technical aspects of projects, including design space exploration and technical coordination.
Your tasks will include:
- Design space exploration and architectural design of advanced microprocessors
- Integration and verification of System-on-Chip designs
- Implementation in target technologies, including both ASIC and FPGA
- Technical leadership in development projects and contribution to company workflows
Who we believe you are
You enjoy working close to the hardware and take pride in seeing designs function on real devices. You are structured, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in complex development flows.
We believe you have:
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- At least 10 years of experience of ASIC development experience, including SoC architecture
- Experience of integrating IP Cores into a SoC with high-performance functions and interfaces
- Extensive experience in RTL design, verification, and implementation
- Hands-on experience with synthesis (Synopsys or Cadence), DFT, and physical design
- Strong skills in VHDL (or similar HDL)
It is a strong advantage if you have experience in:
- Hands-on experience from measurements and fault tracing on FPGA or ASIC-based designs
- Knowledge of microprocessor design and the RISC-V or SPARC architectures
- Experience from advanced ASIC nodes
- Experience with radiation-tolerant or fault-tolerant design
