Hitachi Energy Sweden AB is looking for an **R&D Senior Hardware Developer** to lead and oversee the development of hardware solutions for protective relays. Operating across the full project lifecycle from concept to delivery, the role serves as technical lead in development projects, defines specifications for upcoming hardware features, and maintains existing products to current standards. Day-to-day responsibilities also include collaborating closely with suppliers and development partners, leading root-cause analyses, supporting project leads with resource and schedule planning, driving process improvements, and mentoring junior colleagues. The position is covered by a collective agreement and includes flexible working hours. Applicants must hold a **bachelor's degree in electrical engineering**, electrical design, or a related field, while a master's degree is considered an advantage. The position requires **at least five years of experience** in relevant hardware development, including expertise in areas such as analog and high-speed digital design, PCB-A design and manufacturing, EMC/EMF design, power supply design, measurement circuitry, or embedded hardware including FPGA. Candidates must also bring hands-on experience in lab measurements and hardware verification, familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies alongside tools like Jira, MS Project, or DevOps, and strong stakeholder management abilities. Prior experience within the power transmission or distribution industry is a plus.

This role involves development within the full project lifecycle, from concept to delivery, ensuring products are developed and maintained to the highest quality standards, according to technical specifications and with competitive and innovative HW solutions.
How you’ll make an impact
- Technical lead in new hardware development projects out of internal requirements and specifications
- Pro actively maintain and keep current products up to the latest standards
- Closely cooperate with our suppliers and development parters
- Actively work on defining the specifications for upcoming HW features.
- Lead problem solving and root cause analysis activities
- Support, as an expert, cross functional topics and represent the HW development team
- Support HW Project leads in defining resource and time plans
- Drive improvement activities to improve processes and best practices
- Lead and mentor junior colleagues
Your background
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Design or another related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in applicable hardware development, including one or more of the following areas of expertise: analog and digital (hi-speed) design, PCB-A design and manufacturing, design for EMC/EMF, power supply design, design of measurement circuitry, design of embedded HW incl. FPGA.
- Experienced in Agile and Waterfall methods and tools such as Jira, MS Project, and DevOps.
- Strong communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
- Hands on experience from lab measurements and HW verification.
- Detail‑driven problem solver
- Previous experience from power transmission or distribution business is a plus
