Hitachi Energy Sweden AB is seeking a **Research Scientist for Power Electronics** to join its research center in Sweden. Working within cross-disciplinary teams, the position focuses on leading research initiatives and high-profile R&D work packages that advance sustainable energy systems. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing innovative solutions to technical challenges, running experiments in **advanced laboratory facilities**, and validating concepts through prototyping, modeling, and simulation. The role also involves collaborating with academic partners, customers, and suppliers, securing research funding, mentoring junior colleagues, and delivering results via patent applications, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations. The position offers career development pathways into technical or managerial leadership. Applicants should hold a **PhD in Electrical Engineering** specializing in power electronics and/or power systems, though candidates with a comparable master’s degree and notable research achievements are also considered. Required qualifications include strong expertise in designing power electronic converters and controllers, hands-on hardware and laboratory validation experience, and an understanding of Transmission System Operator requirements and grid code compliance. Candidates must also demonstrate experience leading complex R&D projects, a track record of publications or patents, and **fluent English** skills. Additional expertise in energy storage, advanced control strategies, or machine learning in power systems is an advantage.

For our research center in Sweden, we are looking for a research scientist with expertise in the area of Power Electronics, and power system. You will work in dynamic, motivated, and creative teams with a wide range of experience and competence and with access to highly advanced laboratory facilities.

Your background
- PhD in Electrical Engineering with specialization in power electronics and/or power systems (or a comparable master’s degree with notable research achievements).
- Strong expertise in designing and implementing power electronic converters and controllers, including hands-on experience with hardware prototyping, laboratory validation, and modeling & simulation.
- Demonstrated experience with Transmission System Operator (TSO) requirements and deep understanding of grid code compliance for utility-scale energy systems (e.g., dynamic performance, fault-ride through, inertia, harmonics mitigation).
- Proven experience leading complex R&D projects, ideally as a technical lead or principal investigator.
- Additional expertise in energy storage, advanced control strategies, or application of machine learning in power systems is a plus.
- Background in publishing peer-reviewed research, filing patents, or presenting at international conferences.
- Excellent communication skills, a collaborative attitude, and adaptability to new challenges.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
