Gears of Leo AB is recruiting a **Senior Backend Engineer** to join the Tiger Sportsbook Team within LeoVegas Group. Working in a high-volume, real-time environment, the engineer will maintain and expand current betting and trading services, integrate data feeds, and build new capabilities from concept to production. Key duties include designing scalable, secure RESTful microservices, conducting code reviews, mentoring colleagues, and maintaining system observability through monitoring, alerting, and **on-call participation**. The company operates under a hybrid work policy. Applicants must have at least **six years of software development experience** with Java, Spring Boot, and event-driven architectures. Essential requirements include hands-on experience designing microservices with Docker, Kubernetes, and Kafka, practical knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, caching, and resilience patterns such as circuit breakers and retries. Proficiency in English is required. Additional experience with reactive programming such as RxJava or Vert.x, cloud platforms like AWS or Google Cloud Platform, and prior work in online gaming or gambling are advantageous.

We are recruiting for our Tiger Sportsbook Team!
In Sportsbook we work in a high-volume, real-time environment, integrating data feeds with our modern trading system and transactional betting platform (UI/Backend). Your contributions will cover maintaining/expanding our current Betting/Trading services as well as building new services and capabilities for our users.
As a key member of our team, you’ll collaborate effectively while also demonstrating initiative and a passion for sharing innovative ideas.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
● Taking ownership, problem-solving and collaborating with other teams.
● Designing and implementing from idea to production.
● Building for scale, availability, performance and security across the stack.
● Working with product managers, architects, QA engineers and other developers in a highly collaborative agile environment.
● Integrating new products and building internal services to support our ecosystem.
● Conducting code reviews and mentoring team members.
● Ensuring services are production-ready, observable, and maintainable through monitoring, alerting, and on-call participation.
OUR SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
● 6+ Years of software development experience with Java, Spring Boot and Event-Driven Architectures.
● Experience designing microservices, K8s, containerization (Docker) and Kafka messaging systems.
● Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases and caching.
● Implementing resilience patterns (e.g., retries, circuit breakers, graceful degradation).
● Designing and maintaining monitoring dashboards (e.g., metrics, logs, traces) and alerts to proactively detect issues.
● Hands-on experience developing highly scalable RESTful end-to-end microservices.
NICE TO HAVES:
● Familiarity with Reactive Programming (e.g. RxJava) and Vert.x would be a big plus.
● Experience in platforms like AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
● Online gaming and gambling experience
