Instabee Group AB is hiring a **Senior Backend Engineer** to join its Orders team at the Stockholm headquarters, operating under a **flexible hybrid setup**. In this technical leadership role, you will take ownership of the architecture, scalability, and resilience of the high-throughput core engine handling millions of deliveries across Europe. Responsibilities include evolving distributed microservices, adopting AI tools and automations to enhance developer workflows, collaborating with product leaders on technical roadmaps, and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews and collaborative programming. Candidates must have a solid background in architecting and operating resilient, high-throughput distributed systems in production, supported by deep expertise in **Node.js and TypeScript**. You also need advanced experience with MongoDB (or similar NoSQL or relational databases), strong proficiency in Kubernetes, and hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (or an equivalent cloud environment). About the Role
As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Orders team, you will shape the overall architecture, technical direction, and scalability of our core order-handling engine. The Orders domain is central to Instabee’s operations, processing deliveries for millions of consumers across Europe.
In this role, you’ll take on a high-leverage technical leadership position—driving architectural decisions, integrating modern technologies, and elevating engineering standards across our distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect Core Systems: Lead the technical design, scalability, and resilience of our high-throughput order backbone.
- Integrate AI & Modern Tech: Proactively adopt AI tools, LLMs, and smart automations to boost system capabilities and developer workflows.
- Drive Strategy & Mentorship: Partner with product leaders to align tech roadmaps with business goals while coaching junior and mid-level engineers.
- Continuous Optimization: Audit, refactor, and evolve our distributed microservices to ensure top-tier reliability and performance.
- Collaborative Engineering: Champion technical excellence through high-standard code reviews, mob/pair programming, and shared ownership.
Your Future Team
The Orders team builds and maintains the core engine responsible for the end-to-end order lifecycle—from creation to successful delivery. Supported by an Engineering Manager, Product Manager, and Staff Engineer, you will operate with high autonomy in a tight-knit, collaborative environment where your technical decisions carry direct, company-wide impact.
What We’re Looking For
- Senior Backend Background: Solid track record of architecting and operating resilient, high-throughput distributed systems in production.
- Core Stack: Deep, hands-on expertise in Node.js and TypeScript.
- Databases: Advanced experience with MongoDB (or similar NoSQL/relational systems), including query optimization and schema design at scale.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Strong proficiency with Kubernetes and hands-on experience with GCP (or equivalent cloud environments).
- AI-Forward Mindset: Practical curiosity for applying AI tooling and developer automations to streamline engineering and operational workflows.
- Technical Leadership: Ability to take complex initiatives from concept to production while communicating architectural trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical peers.
- Fluency in English: Confident verbal and written communication.
