Hykmann Global Business Solutions AB is hiring a **Senior Java AWS Engineer** for a one-year contract position based in Gothenburg. Working as part of a small, autonomous engineering team, the role focuses on developing, scaling, and maintaining large-scale, distributed systems and customer-facing web services. This is a **100% on-site** position requiring immediate availability, with the potential for long-term contract engagement. Applicants must possess an existing valid work permit or the right to work in Sweden, alongside fluency in both Swedish and English. Requirements include at least **five years of professional backend software engineering experience**, strong hands-on AWS proficiency, and deep knowledge of Java and the JVM, including memory management, garbage collection, concurrency, virtual threads, and performance tuning. Candidates must also have solid experience with distributed systems architectures, technologies such as Cassandra, Redis, or Memcached, REST services using frameworks like Netty, and automated CI/CD pipelines. Familiarity with cryptography and security standards, machine learning systems, privacy-sensitive architectures, and tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Spinnaker is considered advantageous.
We are looking for a Senior Java/AWS Engineer to join a small, autonomous engineering team working on large-scale, distributed systems.

Job Details

Key Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend expertise
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services
- Deep knowledge of Java and JVM, including: JVM memory management, Garbage Collection (GC), Concurrency, Performance tuning, Virtual threads
- Strong experience building and scaling customer-facing web services
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and distributed data architectures
- Experience with Cassandra, Redis, Memcached, or similar technologies
- Experience building REST services using Netty or similar frameworks
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and software delivery
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a fast-changing environment
Nice to Have
- Cryptography/security knowledge: PKCS, KMIP, X.509, AES, KDF, CA
- Exposure to ML systems/frameworks
- Experience with GitHub, Maven, Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker
- Experience with privacy-sensitive or security-critical systems
