ABB AB is seeking a **Technical Product Owner - Embedded Systems** to join its Process Control Platform unit within Process Automation, reporting to the R&D Team Lead. The role carries cross-functional technical ownership of embedded automation products across their entire lifecycle, from development and release through maintenance and continuous enhancement. Responsibilities include translating customer and product requirements into technical specifications, bridging interactions between hardware, firmware, and software, and leading investigations into complex product issues alongside development teams and subject matter experts. The position also entails contributing to product roadmaps, assessing technical risks, and providing guidance to customers, manufacturing, and internal stakeholders. Candidates must hold a **B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering**, or a related technical discipline, combined with extensive experience in embedded product development—preferably ten years or more. Solid expertise across both embedded electronics and embedded software is required, as is experience with technically advanced products in an industrial or manufacturing setting and fluency in written and spoken English. Background in **technical product ownership or systems engineering** is highly valued. We are looking for a Technical Product Owner to play a key role in the continued development and technical evolution of ABB's embedded product portfolio. In this position, you will combine your expertise in embedded electronics and software with a strong product mindset, ensuring products continue to meet customer needs, quality standards, and future business requirements.
You will work across multiple disciplines and collaborate closely with R&D teams, product management, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers. Success in this role requires a broad technical foundation, curiosity, and the ability to connect expertise from different domains to drive effective solutions and informed technical decisions.
Your main responsibilities
- Take technical ownership of products throughout their lifecycle, from development and release to maintenance and continuous improvement.
- Work across embedded electronics and software disciplines, understanding the interaction between hardware, firmware, software, and overall system functionality.
- Translate customer and product requirements into technical specifications, priorities, and development activities.
- Collaborate closely with developers, system architects, product managers, manufacturing teams, and other stakeholders to drive product success.
- Lead investigations of complex technical product issues together with subject matter experts and development teams.
- Support customers and internal stakeholders with technical guidance and product-related expertise.
- Contribute to technical decisions, product enhancements, quality initiatives, and long-term product roadmaps.
- Identify technical risks, opportunities for improvement, and relevant emerging technologies that can strengthen ABB's product offering.
Qualifications for the role
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Extensive experience in embedded product development, preferably 10 years or more.
- Solid technical expertise in both embedded electronics and embedded software.
- Broad understanding of electronics design, firmware/software development, interfaces, verification, and product lifecycle management.
- Experience working with technically advanced products in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in technical product ownership, systems engineering, technical leadership, or similar cross-functional roles is highly valued.
- Ability to navigate seamlessly between detailed technical challenges, system-level architecture discussions, and long-term product strategy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with a structured and pragmatic approach.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and organizational boundaries.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
